Fuck Black Friday Sales: Why I’m Choosing Peace Over Profit
I love a good deal as much as anyone, but I’m tired of the rush. The frantic, anxious energy that builds during the holidays over consumption. Everywhere you look, there’s another ad screaming, “Don’t miss out! Last call! The best deal you’ll ever see!” They’re preying on our FOMO and designed to make us feel like if we don’t buy now, we’ll regret it forever.
These past few months have been tough for me between challenges with my health and running a small business. I’ve felt the relentless pressure to join the madness of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and endless holiday campaigns. There’s a constant drumbeat telling you that if you’re not selling, you’re failing.
I questioned myself: “Am I a bad business owner because I don’t want to participate?” “Am I missing out?”
Everywhere you look, there’s always a reason to buy more STUFF.
I get it. Every sale matters—especially for small businesses. And with seven years in marketing, I understand how ads tap into our instant gratification mindset and consumerism culture. But here’s the thing: I Fucking Hate It.
I hate promoting something just for the sake of selling. It feels purposeless and misaligned with why I started my business in the first place.
Why I Started My Business
I didn’t open my doors to push products or chase transactions. I built my business to help others—to serve my community and support fellow entrepreneurs. My goal has always been to create value that goes beyond stuff.
Yes, I want my business to grow. But for the right reasons. I want to offer products and services that actually benefit your mind, body, soul, and/or business—not things you’ll forget about by January.
Reclaiming What Matters
The holidays shouldn’t be about endless shopping. They should be about:
Family
Rest
Reconnection
Gratitude
Community
We’ve become so detached from what it means to build true community. As business owners, sometimes it feels like Instead of meaningful connections, we chase quick transactions. And as consumers, instead of memories, we’re hoarding more stuff.
What if we shifted our focus?
Invest in experiences with loved ones instead of another item you don’t really need.
Prioritize connection and belonging over deals and discounts.
Celebrate the people who matter most, because unlike that “limited-time offer,” your loved ones won’t always be here.
My Black Friday Stance
This year, I’m saying fuck no to Black Friday sales. Not because I don’t care about my business, but because I value my peace of mind and believe in taking time to reset and recharge—and that is okay.
Those shoes, that piece of jewelry, that tech gadget? They will go on sale again. They always do, no matter what the ad says. (Trust me I know, I was the one writing the Ads)
But your grandparents? Your parents? Your kids? Your loved ones?
They won’t always be here. Time cannot be bought.
So, this holiday season, I invite you to join me in rejecting the noise. Let’s refocus on what truly matters: peace, presence, and community.
And if I can serve you in a way that uplifts your life, your business, or your spirit, know that I’m here for that—not just for the holidays, but always.
